The Mattoon Public Library in Mattoon, Illinois is searching for a
director with the vision to lead the library during a time of growth. The
library’s circulation of materials has almost doubled in the past 5 years to
100,000 per year; library staff has been consistently successful in receiving
outside funding through LSTA grants and foundation grants.
Mattoon is located approximately 45 minutes south of Champaign and is within
a four-hour trip to Chicago, Indianapolis, or St. Louis. The library serves a
population of 18,000, has a 10-member staff, a collection of 60,000 items, and
an operating budget of $516,000. The library is located in a century-old, 26,000
sq. ft. Carnegie building that was extensively remodeled in 1995.
Qualifications: an MLS and 5 years professional experience with demonstrated
ability in administration, budgeting, planning, and supervision, plus experience
with grants, public relations, working with community agencies, collection
development, and managing a library referendum for either expansion of territory
to serve the non-served or for a tax rate increase. Salary: $40,000+ (DOQ).
